Committed to bringing hope to the hopeless in India.
Open Arms India (OAI) began in 1984 with the commitment to build one home for orphaned children and has since expanded to nine homes where children are daily provided with food, shelter, education and other necessities that other parts of the world take for granted. In addition, OAI has opened and operates six free schools offering free education to village children who had no educational opportunity before the schools were established.
While OAI initially started with the goal of reaching out to children, our mission expanded to include widows in nearby communities. Old and young women continue to find OAI to be a place of recognition and acceptance, as they receive food, clothing, and skills training. As our commitment to meet basic needs developed, OAI has become actively involved in providing more than 200 wells so villages can have access to clean, safe water.
In response to the growing needs of the East Indian community, OAI has built a hospital to care for the physical needs, as well as a church to care for the spiritual needs. Professional medical attention is completely free. Because the poor are often forgotten by the government, OAI also offers emergency assistance to those affected by natural disasters or record-setting cold temperatures in the region.
Our mission at Open Arms India is to keep operating costs down and to ensure that contributions from sponsors and donors and our community partners are quickly distributed among the 700 children in our care. In 2011, 92.8% of Open Arms India’s total operating expenses were used for supporting its programs to give relief to the poor, the widowed and the homeless.
We are reaching India’s most needy, thanks to your support.
